American Mess release plans

I don't have full information yet, but it appears that a release date for The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Mess has been set. It's May 29th.

You can see that info here: Monogram Releasing.

I'm sure more complete info will be available eventually.

Congrats again! I looked through their lineup and they're putting out some other cool underground films. You're in good company.

Yeah, we kind of don't fit in with most of the lineup, do we? I think they're mostly into cult films in general.

I do see what you mean, but as someone who loves American Messiah as much as he does Brain Dead and Poultrygeist, I can also see how at least those three do "fit" together.

Yes, those other two films are gory and disgusting, but there is a certain similarity that, writing off the top of my head here, I'm not sure how to explain properly yet. But it lies in the humor and approach to the material, especially with Poultrygeist and American Messiah. Kaufman goes way more over the top than you do, but both films are ultimately social satires with similar attitudes about people who take advantage of others.

Also, I haven't seen Stomp! Shout! Scream!, but it did play at the Atlanta Underground with American Messiah, so there's some connection there.

I've always been a little uncertain, I suppose, if American Messiah could properly be considered underground (because of what we typically think of when we think of underground -- like you said, gory and disgusting).

But, given this, and some of the screenings, and your enjoyment of it, I guess it does fit...
